Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that enhances your natural breast size and shape to help you achieve your aesthetic goals. The procedure is done under general anesthetic, but you go home the same day. Breast augmentation is often combined with other procedures, such as breast lifts, tummy tucks, and liposuction. As a female plastic surgeon, Dr. Haley Augustine understands the feelings and concerns women may have toward their breasts. She recommends breast augmentation to help women achieve the fuller, curvier breast profile they desire.
Breast augmentation is a suitable procedure for women who have lost volume in their breasts through breastfeeding, aging, or significant weight loss. It can also benefit those who are unhappy with their natural breast size and desire a bigger cup size. Ideal candidates are non-smokers in good overall health and have realistic expectations for their outcome.
Dr. Haley Augustine provides an empathetic and gentle approach. As a female surgeon and mother of two, she is patient and understands the unique challenges many women face regarding their bodies.

Breast implants are silicone shells filled with either saline solution or silicone gel. They are placed behind the breast tissue or beneath the chest muscle to enhance the size and shape of the breast. The size and type of implant used will depend on the patient’s goals and anatomy.
Breast augmentation with implants involves making an incision on the undersurface of the breast, creating a pocket to hold the implant, and placing the implant in the predetermined position. The incision used to place the implant is typically at the undersurface of the breast (inframammary incision).
Fat transfer augmentation, also known as autologous fat transfer, may be combined with implants to help smooth the contour of the breasts or as a stand-alone procedure. This technique involves harvesting fat from other body areas, such as the thighs, abdomen, or buttocks, and transferring it to the breasts. The fat is first removed through liposuction, then processed and injected into the breast tissue to improve the shape and volume.
During the first few days after the procedure, patients may experience pain, swelling, and bruising in the breast area. Most patients can return to work and light activities within one to two weeks, but more strenuous physical activities should be avoided for 6 weeks. Patients must follow post-operative instructions carefully to ensure a safe and speedy recovery. This includes wearing a surgical brassiere, avoiding smoking, and intense physical activity.
A difference in the size of your breasts can be seen immediately, but their final shape and position will not be visible until swelling has reduced. After 3-4 weeks, you can expect implants to fall into a more natural position. A certain percentage of any fat transferred to the breasts will not survive. This is accounted for and may initially make the breasts seem larger. The final results can be seen after 6-12 months. Many women feel more confident and feminine with their new, curvy breast profile.
Dr. Haley Augustine offers compassionate care, with a deep understanding of the female body and psychology.

Breast augmentation can potentially affect a woman’s ability to breastfeed, but the extent of the impact depends on the type of procedure and the individual case. Here are some general considerations to keep in mind:
Breastfeeding with implants: Women with breast implants may still be able to breastfeed, but the location of the incisions and the placement of the implants can affect the ability to produce milk. In general, incisions around the nipple or areola may be more likely to affect breastfeeding, while incisions under the breast or in the armpit may have less impact. The placement of the implants can also affect milk production and delivery.
Wait until after breastfeeding: Some women may choose to wait until after they have finished having children and breastfeeding before undergoing breast augmentation to avoid any potential impact on milk production or delivery.
